Our Technology

Something Invisible is Speaking

Every living body broadcasts a chemical signal. It drifts in exhaled breath, disperses into the air, and carries within it a precise record of what is happening inside, its metabolic state, immune response, reproductive status, and the slow chemistry of disease long before a symptom appears.

For most of human history, we couldn't read it.

The Agscent system can.

"Scent patterns are biology's tell-tale signatures. Their secrets have always been there. The convergence of nano-materials, AI, semiconductors and molecular science, means we can now decode them at scale."

— Dr Bronwyn Darlington, Founder of Agscent.

Breath collection technology

The Noise Cancelling Headphones for Breath

Before the sensor can read a breath, you have to capture the right breath.

Capturing only the diagnostically meaningful fraction of breath, the deep lung air that carries the true biological signal, not the ambient noise surrounding the animal required an entirely new invention.

filters out ambient air, environmental interference, and early exhalation in real time, isolating only the breath fraction that carries the biological truth. Think of it as noise-cancelling headphones for breath collection. Just as noise-cancelling technology strips away everything but the signal you want to hear, Agscent’s system strips away everything but the breath that tells the story. Noise-cancelling. For breath.

Agscent’s breath collection bags

are purpose-built to preserve every biological signal from the moment of collection through to analysis — with nothing lost in between. Available in multiple sizes for different applications, lightweight and portable, they connect directly to the Agscent device in seconds. Single-use and disposable, no contamination risk, no cleaning, no fuss. One bag. One breath. One answer.

Sensing technology

Nano Sensing Meets Semiconductors

The science behind Agscent begins at the nanoscale. Our sensors are built from novel nanomaterials so sensitive they detect specific molecules at incredibly low concentrations. They don't look for a single compound… they read a pattern. A chemical fingerprint of the biological state being measured.

What makes this possible is a platform built around multiple sensing technologies, each suited to different targets, environments, and applications.

One of these sensor technologies is from NASA's Ames Research Center developed for Mars mission environments and later adapted to detect COVID-19 in human breath.

Others are being developed through deep research partnerships with Macquarie University and ANU. As the science of biomarker detection advances, so does our sensor toolkit.

What ties it all together is Agscent's translation layer: our proprietary chip architecture and manufacturing processes take what world-leading research institutions have proved possible in the lab and make it work reliably, repeatably, and at field scale.

The AI & data layer

The Intelligence Layer: When Chemistry Becomes an Answer

A sensor reading is data. A diagnosis is understanding. Agscent's AI connects the two.

Every breath produces a multi-dimensional fingerprint dozens of signal channels firing simultaneously, each weighted differently, together forming a pattern no single compound could reveal alone. Not one thing. A signature.

Machine learning models trained on thousands of real-world samples recognise those signatures with high specificity, this is validated against ultrasound for pregnancy, PCR for disease, blood panels for metabolic conditions. The ground truth is always clinical.

For greenhouse gas monitoring, proprietary algorithms strip out temperature, humidity, and atmospheric noise, so a methane reading in an Australian summer feedlot carries the same reliability as one taken in a Canadian winter.

The intelligence layer doesn't just read the chemistry. It understands the context.

Convergence of technology

The Agscent System

Each part of the Agscent system is powerful on its own. Together, they create something entirely new.

At its core is the convergence of three advances: highly sensitive nanomaterials; ultra-precise detection of electrical resistance at parts-per-million and parts-per-billion levels; and artificial intelligence that turns these signals into actionable diagnostics.

Most diagnostic tools answer one question. Agscent is built differently.

Interchangeable sensor modules, each tuned to specific molecules. A system used for pregnancy detection in cattle can be reconfigured for disease in pigs, ketosis in dairy cows, or diseases in humans. The same AI can be retrained as new biomarkers are validated.

This modular architecture is deliberate. It is built for the questions still to come.

The Bigger Picture

Agscent began by focusing on non-invasive livestock diagnostics because the need is urgent, the market is clear, and the science is ready. But the system is not defined by its first application. It is defined by what it can become.

Every breath tells a story. Agscent is learning to read all of them.
